Our Statement of Faith

As a community of born again (John 3:3) believers who are people in God's  Kingdom known as the church, we will seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness in everything we do as instructed by Jesus in Matthew 6:33. We  commit to the Great Commandment: “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”  (Deuteronomy 6:5) We also commit to the command to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). We shall be guided by the Word of God and led by the Holy Spirit as we commit to fulfilling the Great Commission, “Go and  make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of  the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have  commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes."

Our Church's Story

Vine Street Bible Church exists for God’s glory and the good of Christ’s people. In 2018 two 161 year old neighboring congregations voted to come together. It is believed the two Churches broke off from one another in 1857. We believe this is a redemptive chapter in a story, started long before us.  In 2014 First Baptist Church was in need of pulpit supply. Pastor Evan of First Christian Church would preach at First Christian, then walk down the sidewalk and preach again at First Baptist. This continued for 3 ½ years while The Holy Spirit grew both congregations together. It was a miracle. With man it is impossible, all things are possible with God. (Matthew 19:26)

Our Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by The Spirit of God, to receive the Lord
Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having
been baptized in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The
Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this
assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one
another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, with The Holy Spirit’s convicting, to confess our
sins to the Lord Jesus Christ, the mediator of the New Covenant, before
we receive the good gift of the Lord’s Supper, taking care that we do not
allow ourselves or those under our charge to receive Communion in an
unworthy fashion. We engage therefore to practice that which we
received in the Scriptures to not forsake the assembling of the saints for
the purpose of breaking bread, prayer, fellowship, and the Apostle’s
teaching as found in the Word of God.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of The Holy Spirit, to walk together in
Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this Church, in
knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity, and
spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines;
to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the
expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the
Gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously
educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and
acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our
dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment;
to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; and to be zealous in
our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to
remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and
distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in
speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation,
and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay,
remembering our Baptism, that as we have been voluntarily buried by
Baptism and raised again from the symbolic grave, so there is on us a

special obligation now to lead a new and holy life, and to remind one
another of the great hope we have in a Resurrection like our Lord’s.

All Glory To God.
Amen.
